Ways to Stay Hydrated While Pregnant And Nursing

June 16, 2015

Water, water, water. You always hear how important it is to drink water during your pregnancy and after your pregnancy. Here's what is suggested to keep you properly hydrated:

IF YOU ARE...

Pregnant: Aim for eight 8-ounce glasses per day (64 fluid ounces) of fluid, plus one 8-ounce cup for each hour of light activity.

Nursing: The above + four extra 8-ounce glasses of fluid daily.

Tips to Stay Hydrated:

  • Right when you wake up, drink 8-ounces of water.
  • At every meal, make sure you have a tall glass of water.
  • Bring a water bottle with you in the car, and drink as much water as you can while driving.
  • While nursing or bottle-feeding baby, keep your water bottle nearby and drink up.
  • Keep water by your bed at night. Take your water bottle with you for those late-night feedings.
  • When exercising, make sure you ALWAYS bring a FULL water bottle with you.

After I had my baby, I used the huge water jug they gave me at the hospital 24/7. But, after a few weeks, I realized it was difficult to take on the go because it was SO big.
