Don’t you just love all of those well-meaning older ladies who give freely of their advice when it comes to pregnancy and childbearing? I swear once I became pregnant it suddenly seemed like the population of women over the age of 60 had tripled and they all knew everything I had to do to relieve my morning sickness, scolded me for over-exerting myself by pushing a grocery cart, and most entertaining of all, somehow knew the gender of my baby even before I did.
Whether you buy the old wives’ tales or not, they can be pretty entertaining to test out, and some people swear by their predictive power. So here are some common wives’ tales for early gender prediction. What do you think – common pregnancy symptoms or clues on who’s to come?
It’s a BOY if…
Your skin is better than ever, glowing even
Your baby’s heartbeat is less than 140 bpm
You perform the ring test and it spins in a back and forth, pendulum-like motion
Dad gains weight rather than maintains or loses
You crave salty foods or meat
You carry the baby low
Your right boob is bigger than your left
Your belly is rounder, like a basketball
You gain more weight in the thighs than anywhere else
You’re clumsier than usual
Your feet are always cold
Your age at conception added to the month of conception is an odd number
You sleep on your left side
You’re hairier than usual
Your face is long and lean and doesn’t get rounder
It’s a GIRL if…
Your skin is pimply and less clear than usual
Your baby’s heartbeat is more than 140 bpm
You do the ring test and it moves in circles
Dad maintains his weight or stays fit
You crave sweets and/or ice
You carry the baby high
Your left boob is bigger than your right
Your belly is wider life a watermelon rather than round
You gain most of your weight in your belly
You’re still graceful
Your feet aren’t any colder than usual
Your age at conception added to the month of conception is an even number
You sleep on your right side
Your body hair grows at the same rate as pre-pregnancy
Your face is rounder than usual
